Happy Tails Therapy Dogs PO Box 935 Bushnell, Fl 33513 |
Welcome to our web site. We hope you enjoy your visit. Are you interested in Therapy Dog volunteer work? HappyTails Therapy Dogs is an informal group of volunteer Therapy Dog handler/dog teams that have joined together to support each other and to increase the general publics knowledge of the importance of Therapy Dog volunteer work. Any dog and handler team who have been tested and passed by a Therapy Dogs Inc. tester/observer and who is in good standing with Therapy Dogs Inc, are welcome to join our group. We offer Therapy Dog Workshops to familiarize you and your dog with issues and objects you will encounter in most facilities. Classes are taught by Therapy Dogs Inc. tester/observers and with assistance from members of Happytails who have been 'on the visiting trail' for a long time. With their help we are able to give new members a wonderful outlook on what it is like and what they may expect when on an authorized visit. This is not an obedience class. All dogs must have some degree of basic obedience. Dogs must be at least one year old, clean, well groomed and up to date on required immunizations or examinations for general health. Dogs must have a current rabies shot and fecal check with a negative result prior to entering the Workshop. No exceptions to this requirement. Dogs should be willing to socialize and show no sign of aggression towards people or other animals. Our group maintains an active calendar of visits. Some of the facilities include, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospice houses, group homes for mentally or physically challenged citizens, hospitals, churches, youth centers, elementary schools for our Read-to-the-Dog program, cancer centers and annual events such as Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army or Walking the Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society. We also offer American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluations. For additional information review this site and or call me at (352)-446-4041 or e-mail me at: sodapop2006@aol.com Please note: You DO NOT have to attend a class in order to become a therapy dog handler. You may ask any T/O to make three visits with you and your dog. Upon completing an evaluation of you and your dog and completing three successful visits you would then submit your application directly to TD Inc. Of Wyoming for registration and acceptance.
