| October 17, 2009 I just received the sad news from Ms Darla Huddleston that her dad Mr Russ Weir passed away this morning around 2:30 am. Some of you knew Mr Russ Weir and his gentle dog Ginger. Some of you know his daughter Ms Darla Huddleston & Freckles and his granddaughter Ms Kayla Ross. Darla & Kayla and Russ are all Therapy Dog handlers with HappyTails Therapy Dogs. Russ was up there in years but that didn't slow him down. He was always willing to help out when ever he could. Russ loved visiting the seniors at Crown Court Assisted Living facility in Inverness, Fl as well as with the children at the Sumter County Youth Center. At the Youth Center you would see Russ & Ginger mixing it up with the children. Then we would move on to the Read-to-the-Dog program. I remember seeing Russ walking across the grounds with a cane in one hand and Ginger, on lead, on the other hand. The event was for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life walk. Shortly after arriving a massive thunder storm hit us and everyone scattered. Russ never complained. He was upset that the storm ruined the event but he was always the gentleman. We will miss you Russ Weir, but we won't ever forget you. |
